My latest project is guitar-driven and experimental, bringing Midwest emo together with acoustic folk, lo-fi production, and hip-hop beats. The guitar is the common thread, but the music moves between those influences rather than settling into any one of them.
One of my earliest projects, mdwst focuses on lo-fi instrumental music. Without vocals leading the way, rhythm and texture take the foreground. It’s the instrumental side of my catalog, distinct from the synthwave of yuppie culture and the guitar-led experiments of good bones, bad weather.
My synthwave project takes its cues from the nostalgic sound of the ’80s, approached through modern production. Synthesizers are at the center, in contrast to the guitars of good bones, bad weather. The aim is to work with that familiar sound without simply recreating a record from another decade.
